Horton Dining Awards. To enter the competition, Los Olivos submitted a scrapbook portfolio to the NACUFS Foundation highlighting the theme “A Sweet Success” and the All–You–Care–To–Eat buffet featuring: hot entrees, fresh deli sandwiches, salad bar, home–style soups and chilis, a grill section serving burgers, sandwiches, chicken, fresh baked goods, a waffle bar, and a self–serve coffee bar complete with lattes, cappuccinos, and espressos.
The NACUFS Dining Service Awards were first introduced in 1973. The awards were re–named in 1992 after Loyal E. Horton, one of the first registered dietitians in the world. He set high standards for the food service industry and was one of the founders of NACUFS. The Loyal E. Horton Dining Award was created to promote the creativity and nutritional soundness that Loyal E. Horton set for college food services, and is open to all members of NACUFS.
